EMA Overview
The Autauga County Emergency Management Agency was established in 1984. Autauga EMA conducts programs and activities designed to provide the county’s citizens with the ability to prepare for, cope with, and recover from the effects of disasters. This is achieved through information and resource exchange, working with the public and private sectors, and all levels of government through the utilization of modern technology.
Autauga County EMA is responsible for coordinating with all the emergency response agencies such as the Sheriff’s Office, Fire Departments, and Police Departments. They combine their Emergency Operations Plans with these agencies to ensure that in the event of a large-scale disaster, every agency can work together.
Autauga EMA’s Emergency Operations Center is a secure facility where city and county officials can safely gather to make decisions and coordinate with department heads and emergency officials in the event of a disaster.
The Emergency Operations Center has many capabilities such as putting out weather warnings and carrying on communications with all city and county agencies. Autauga EMA has supplied many areas in Autauga County with outdoor warning systems and alert radios.
Autauga EMA is a resource and information center where they can supply and manage resources for emergencies. They manage and supply information on all hazards such as thunderstorms, hazardous materials incidents, winter storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, terrorist attacks, and many others. Publications are available to the public and can be picked up at the Autauga EMA office located at 826 Gillespie Street; Prattville, AL 36067, or at a booth set up at many community events.
The Autauga County Emergency Management Agency is the focal point for the Local Emergency Planning Committee, Mass Care Planning Group, the Hazard Mitigation Committee, the Vulnerability Assessment Team, and other various related committees.
This agency writes plans and grants to help ensure the preparedness and safety of Autauga County. They conduct educational programs and training for our response agencies and most importantly for the citizens of our county. They make disaster preparedness presentations in all Autauga County schools, senior centers, and other sites. Their primary goal is to prepare and educate the county’s citizens and to have the resources and plans to help Autauga County respond to and recover from any disaster.
You may contact Autauga EMA for the following: damage to property due to wind, rain, or hail.
Storm damage reports are critical, and the more reports we get of heavy rain, damaging or high winds, and hail verifies the intensity of storms. This info could also help save someone’s life who is in the path of the storm, by letting our partners, the National Weather Service, know that the storm was producing damage and a warning is needed or still needed for the next county in the storm’s path.
